RSTMH Grant Awarded to Dr Aamir Osman

Somali One Health Centre Researcher Awarded Prestigious International Grant

Alhamdulillah—we are proud to announce a significant achievement for the Somali One Health Centre. Dr. Aamir has been awarded the prestigious Early Career Grant (2025) from the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (RSTMH), in partnership with the Journal of Comparative Pathology Educational Trust (JCPET).

This international recognition will directly support a vital new project for Somalia: “Transforming One Health Implementation in Somalia.” The initiative will be led through the Somali One Health Centre and focuses on strengthening the very foundation of our national health security.

The project will directly advance Somalia’s health systems by:

  • Conducting a first-of-its-kind national survey to map the current knowledge, attitudes, and practices of Somali frontline professionals working across human, animal, and environmental health.

  • Delivering targeted, practical training workshops to enhance skills and build essential bridges for cross-sectoral collaboration.

  • Measuring the impact of these interventions to create an evidence-based model for strengthening our national One Health workforce.

The findings are designed to directly inform policy, create more resilient health systems, and enable faster, more coordinated responses to health threats—benefiting communities, livestock, and our shared environment.

This grant is a powerful validation of our centre’s mission to build resilient, collaborative systems from the ground up. As supervisors, Dr. Ahmed A. Hassan-Kadle and Rafael Vieira commend Dr. Aamir on this well-deserved milestone and look forward to the meaningful, locally driven impact this project will generate.

We congratulate Dr. Aamir and extend our gratitude to RSTMH and JCPET for their investment in Somalia’s One Health future. Updates on the project’s progress will be shared in the coming months.
